Phishing Crime has Hit an All-Time High in 2007

Phishing is an identity theft crime. It is an online crime that tries to lure people to click on a link usually on an email so that the criminal can collect your personal information in order for the purpose of identity theft. It requires the cooperation of the email recipient.

Again, the way to keep yourself safe from phishing: (1) Never open suspicious email, (2) Never provide your personal information as a result of an email offer.

MARCH 21, 2007 Phishing Websites and crimeware both hit an all-time high in January, according to the Anti-Phishing Working Group's latest report, which was released yesterday. And for the first time, ISPs surpassed retail as the second-most targeted industry sector -- although they are way behind financial services, which accounts for 88.9 percent of phishing attacks.
